Flea, and heart worm controlQ: Is it ok to use both "interceptor" and "program" monthly. for example, i would use the interceptor on the first of the month and the program on the 15th of the month. i want to know if there is any harm that will come to the pet using the combination. the dog is a 5 month old heeler mix, weighing 22 lbs. frank A: It should not create any problems, but may i suggest switching to a single combination product like sentinel.

Side effectsQ: My 2 dogs (mix shephard & daschund) received the proheart 6t in aug 2004. since then they both have been having problems. i had heard that the proheart 6 has been recalled because of all the deaths of dogs.i was wondering if you could tell me what the side effects is with this medication. thank you! a very concern animal lover! A: Http://concernedvet.netfirms.com/effects.html|the above site lists a whole bunch of side effects. use it for reference only, seeking professional help for major problems.
Gave a stray puppy tylenolQ: We gave a stray puppy 1/4 tsp of tylenol. we didn't know it was bad for the puppy to have tylenol, and will use asprin from now on. what we need to know is what will happen to him now that he's had it. could it harm him seriously? what should we expect or what side effects will there be now that we have given it to him? is there anything we can give him to counter it? he is a stray mixed breed dog, that weighs about 10lbs. A: I would not worry about it. will likely be fine as it goes out of system quickly. most common side effects are upset stomach or nausea
TicksQ: We live in the northeast (lyme disease) and we will be applying frontline plus next week. but our lab/boxer mix dog already had 2 ticks (white) on him. it took us two days of trying to pull it off with tweezors and my husband's arm muscle and we finally were successful. others have said they should come off with one pull of the tweezor. this took two days of pulling (poor alvin). any advice of an easier way to get them off. it is still snowing here so our vet thinks it is too soon for the frontline. A: One quick pull with tweezers is usually suffice. if leave head in , it will eventually fall out
Shop for: frontline, tick, frontline plus
Heartworm injectionQ: I understand that the heartguard shot has been recalled, please tell me why and what does it do to a dog that has been taking it. thank you, betty bell A: There had been reported an unusually large number of adverse reaction to the proheart, so the product was withdrawn for further studies by the manufacturer.|at this point, there is no reason to believe that an animal who received the shot without incident is in any danger.
FleaQ: My cocker is allergic to almost every kind of flea medication. can you recommend anything i can use on him ? A: Try natural flea control methods such as product known as cloud 9 made by company called halo or halopets. also see book dr. pitcairns guide to naturalhealth for dogs and cats by richard pitcairn, which has detailed options in this area
Misdiagnosis of cushingsQ: First i would like to say thank you for all of your help!!!!! this time i do not have a question but before receiving your response to my second question (you suggested an internist) i got a second opinion from another vet we used to use. he absolutely stated that based on the blood and urine tests there shows no signs of cushings at all. he believes my dog has seasonal allergies and we are trying prednisone to relieve her discomfort. if not seasonal, he thinks food or scabes (spelling) which could be accurate due to the fact that she recently spent time at a kennel. i just wanted to let people know that a second opinion is always good. i almost had to make the ultimate decision of long term debt to treat her or saying goodbye. i am glad that i spent another $100 to not have to make that decision. A: Your very welcome. glad to be of some help to you. pass your comments etc on to 1800petmeds brass.
