Side effects of deramaxQ: I have a lhasa apso who is 15 years old. he was started on deramax approximately 1 1/2 months ago for signs and symptoms of osteoarthritis. since about 1 month ago, his has lost his appetite and will not eat his dry food, which he used to love to eat. i am having a hard time getting him to eat. he will only take "mighty dog" once it is warmed slightly, and will only eat a small portion of it. he is losing weight. is loss of appetite an adverse reaction to deramax? in the meantime, i am giving him a multi-vitamin to help supplement him. do you have any suggestions to help me get him to eat his food again? i am planning to stop the medication temporarily to see if his appetite returns. thanks, louise, rn, nurse practitioner A: It is possible that this is due to the medication. i would contact your veterinarian.

Loss of badder control with ageQ: Hi! my mom took in a stray dog awhile ago. i would say that the dog is a collie mix, or maybe pure collie. it is about 8 years old. she is having a bladder control issue, she wets the bed. this only occurs while she is sleeping and she is very displeased that "some other dog" came in and wet on her bed while she was sleeping. she is soooo sweet and very smart. is there anything we can do please help. also if you can recommend some medication that would be great. she has arthritis and a small heart mummer. A: Have urine checked by vet for infection. if none present, then ask for drug called phenylproponolamine which can help with urine incontinence
Help in identifying wormsQ: Dear doctor, while cleaning up after my 8-month old dog, i noticed a long spaghetti-like worm in his stool. what is the difference between whipworm, roundworm and hookworms and what is the best med. for him? thanks lots!! julia A: All are different types of worms but all can cause similar signs of diarrhea or vomitingor weight loss etc. rounds and hooks can be treated with med like nemex from;1800petmeds. whips usually need panacure. also monthly heartworm meds such as interceptor can prevent all 3 worms. i suspect roundworms given age and your description

Poodle developed cough october 2003Q: My poodle that is 12 years old developed a chronic cough this past october, it has become almost non-stop. the vet prescribe lasix for the rest of his life. he says he has congestive heart failure. my dog appears to have something stuck in his throat that he is trying dislodge. the vet he had in the past found nothing wrong with his heart, no murmur or anything. could he have developed congestive heart failure so soon? i want to know if there are other medicines to give him, or is there such a thing as a hair ball that could be lodged in his throat. i love this little fellow and he is such a good friend. the lasix is not helping the cough. please advise. thank you so much. whenever he is picked up and his chest is compressed even a small amount he starts coughing and gagging. he eats well, runs and plays around our yard that is quite steep and he does not seem to cough from exersion. he coughs at night and whenever he enters the house. coughs when he gets excited over something. he has a rattle in his chest or wheezing all the time and ever so often he coughs up white mucous. please advise. i am so worried about him. A: I would make sure vet has right diagnosis of congestive heart failure by getting another opinion. some poodles have chronic lung disease as well which they can have with or by itself. this is medicated with totally different medications like drugs to dilate airways as well as anti-inflammatories. lasix will not help these chronic lung diseases
Tablet form?Q: Is there a tablet form for flea and tick? i use frontline plus but it is a battle to get it on my dog. she runs and hides in the opposite direction as soon as she sees the package or smells the product.
