DemodexQ: I started treatment that the vet suggested and my dog got worse. i discontined his treatment and the dog got better. how do i treat demodex? A: You might have seen an inflamatory reaction as the mites were dying. sometimes they look worse for a while, then look better. i suggest you stick with the treatment your veterinarian recommended. i use a dip containing amitraz. ivermectin can also be used.

FleaQ: My cocker is allergic to almost every kind of flea medication. can you recommend anything i can use on him ? Using advantage and adam's flea spray togetherQ: My dog is on advantage, however, she is still scratching and obviously this does not do the trick completely. is it okay to use adams flea and tick spray (which i have had at least a couple of years, so i hope it is still good...) even though the adv. is still in her system? thank you! A: There would be a danger of overdosing your pet. you might want to add a flea and tick collar.

Gave a stray puppy tylenolQ: We gave a stray puppy 1/4 tsp of tylenol. we didn't know it was bad for the puppy to have tylenol, and will use asprin from now on. what we need to know is what will happen to him now that he's had it. could it harm him seriously? what should we expect or what side effects will there be now that we have given it to him? is there anything we can give him to counter it? he is a stray mixed breed dog, that weighs about 10lbs. A: I would not worry about it. will likely be fine as it goes out of system quickly. most common side effects are upset stomach or nausea
Allergic reaction to otc flea medsQ: I had my cats and dog groomed and flea bathed at a local store.one of my cats had a terrible reaction with tremors and seizures.after two days at the hospital and hundreds of dollars of medical expenses i am afraid to use flea meds on him again. is there a safe product to use on him to control fleas? A: I would go with oral non insectidal product called program from 1800petmeds which should be better in this individual case

Flea, and heart worm controlQ: Is it ok to use both "interceptor" and "program" monthly. for example, i would use the interceptor on the first of the month and the program on the 15th of the month. i want to know if there is any harm that will come to the pet using the combination. the dog is a 5 month old heeler mix, weighing 22 lbs. frank A: It should not create any problems, but may i suggest switching to a single combination product like sentinel.
