My dog is losing hair!!!!!!!Q: It has been at least 2months when she started losing her hair. she has spots all over her skin with no hair on it. i don't know what to do. could you please help me? A: Needs diagnostic workup for hair loss including skin scrape, fungal culture, as well as possible skin biopsy if necessary to get to diagnosis and treatment.
Separation anxietyQ: The vet has started our 15 yr old dog on clomipramine 5 mg bid x 2 weeks then 10 mg bid for a total of 20 mg qd. the dog is 12 1/2 #. since the 5 mg capsules are so expensive, when we get to the increased dosage can he have it all at once, is it timed release or would 25 mg not work for his size. 5 mg is 3 times the amount and pet meds does not even carry 5 mg or any tablets only capsules. thanks A: There is only a small difference between the 20 mg tablet and the 25 mg capsule but the vet would have to authorize it. it is not a time release product and depending on the effect desired whether or not you can use a once a day dosing. we do have people giving 1/2 capsule dosing.
Misdiagnosis of cushingsQ: First i would like to say thank you for all of your help!!!!! this time i do not have a question but before receiving your response to my second question (you suggested an internist) i got a second opinion from another vet we used to use. he absolutely stated that based on the blood and urine tests there shows no signs of cushings at all. he believes my dog has seasonal allergies and we are trying prednisone to relieve her discomfort. if not seasonal, he thinks food or scabes (spelling) which could be accurate due to the fact that she recently spent time at a kennel. i just wanted to let people know that a second opinion is always good. i almost had to make the ultimate decision of long term debt to treat her or saying goodbye. i am glad that i spent another $100 to not have to make that decision. A: Your very welcome. glad to be of some help to you. pass your comments etc on to 1800petmeds brass.

Bladder stonesQ: My 3 yr old cat had a stone in his bladder. the vet hosp. had him in the hosp for 3 days giving him some medication to disolve the stone. after that he was on a type of food that continued to disolve the stone for about a month. he has to have prescription canned and dry food from now on to prevent the reocurrance of the problem. it is hill's prescription diet, feline c/d (4 lb bag - dry) and canned in a 5 1/2 oz. can. do you sell this? it seems expensive. $11 for the bag and $1/ can. A: I'm sorry about your cat's problem. unfortunately we do not carry pet foods.
Extremly itchy skin on my dogQ: My shepard is very full of energy and life, but there are times she has to stop and scratch, she has scratced so bad she has made her teets bleed, is she not getting enough oil in her dry food or is it an allergy, because my vet told me to give her 2 benadryl daily because she is prone to ear infections. she is almost 3 years old and weighs 80 lbs. A: It could be an allergy and adding an oil like flax seed oil at 1 tea per 20 pounds of body weight daily to her food could help but long term. you could try other antihistamines, which may or may not help. you may ultimately need low doses of cortisone for acute relief of the itching or consider allergy testing for what she is allergic to for best long term relief.

FrontlineQ: Would you please tell me the difference between frontline spray and frontline top spot do they both work the same i have 4 dogs and would like to know which one to buy A: The topspot is a convenient and simple way to apply frontline protection. the spray is a little more complicated and involves the use of rubber gloves and working the product into the animal's coat. the spray is also more useful when there is a flea infestation you are trying to destroy.
Shop for: frontline, frontline spray
Stool eatingQ: My puppy is aprox. 8 months old and eats his stools. i have never had a dog do this before. what is the cause of this. is it a lack of something in the diet?
