Gave a stray puppy tylenol
Q: We gave a stray puppy 1/4 tsp of tylenol. we didn't know it was bad for the puppy to have tylenol, and will use asprin from now on. what we need to know is what will happen to him now that he's had it. could it harm him seriously? what should we expect or what side effects will there be now that we have given it to him? is there anything we can give him to counter it? he is a stray mixed breed dog, that weighs about 10lbs.
A: I would not worry about it. will likely be fine as it goes out of system quickly. most common side effects are upset stomach or nausea

Dosage
Q: We gave our polish lowland sheepdog his monthly dose of heartgard and about 6 hours later he vomited. (he had been taking an antibiotic for another reason, and this had been causing some gi distressl). should we consider redosing him in a few days or just skip this month?
A: I would just skip this month. there is a safety factor in heartguard so dont worry
Shop for: heartgard

Bladder stones
Q: My 3 yr old cat had a stone in his bladder. the vet hosp. had him in the hosp for 3 days giving him some medication to disolve the stone. after that he was on a type of food that continued to disolve the stone for about a month. he has to have prescription canned and dry food from now on to prevent the reocurrance of the problem. it is hill's prescription diet, feline c/d (4 lb bag - dry) and canned in a 5 1/2 oz. can. do you sell this? it seems expensive. $11 for the bag and $1/ can.
A: I'm sorry about your cat's problem. unfortunately we do not carry pet foods.

Extremly itchy skin on my dog
Q: My shepard is very full of energy and life, but there are times she has to stop and scratch, she has scratced so bad she has made her teets bleed, is she not getting enough oil in her dry food or is it an allergy, because my vet told me to give her 2 benadryl daily because she is prone to ear infections. she is almost 3 years old and weighs 80 lbs.
A: It could be an allergy and adding an oil like flax seed oil at 1 tea per 20 pounds of body weight daily to her food could help but long term. you could try other antihistamines, which may or may not help. you may ultimately need low doses of cortisone for acute relief of the itching or consider allergy testing for what she is allergic to for best long term relief.
Shop for: antihistamine

Tablet form?
Q: Is there a tablet form for flea and tick? i use frontline plus but it is a battle to get it on my dog. she runs and hides in the opposite direction as soon as she sees the package or smells the product.
A: Your might want to consider using a product called sentinel. it will protect against heartworm and fleas. in addition you would use a tick repellant collar.
Shop for: tick, sentinel, frontline plus

Which intercepter
Q: My dog is about 60 lbs. he uses intercepter but my vet gives it to us on a card not a box. how do i know which one to order from you? karen
A: You would use the interceptor "white" which is for dogs 51 - 100 pounds.
Shop for: interceptor

Cushings disease
Q: My dog patch has just been tested for cushings, his tests revealed an 19.5. my vet said she would not treat unless that level was 20. i would like to know if there was anything i could get over the counter to give him some pep or to help with his panting. he was a rescue that we have had for four years and we think he is about six or seven years old. he weighs 75 lbs. thanks, in advance for your help.
A: Dogs can pant for lots of reasons from being heat intolorant(as this is way they sweat) to pain, to many others. have to address underyling cause of panting to make suggestion.
