Torn nail
Q: What do i do if my dog always manages to tear or crack on of her nails . it is usually her back paws. this is the second time she has done this. what can i do to stop this. and is there any thing that i can do for her for any pain she might have? thank you.
A: For pain you can try buffered aspirin at 5 mg per pound once to twice daily with food but not tylenol. if she tears her nails they usually need to be clipped at point of split in the nails
Shop for: aspirin

Flea problem
Q: I have a puppy he goes in side during the day. and inside during the night so he has fleas my cat had fleas and they had loss of hair i so i took them to the vet i was wondering would the fleas still come back on the cat (because they started to loses a little weight but there gaining it back now.)do i need to have flea medication on the puppy still . if so please tell me what kind he needs and wouldn't coast to much. please e-mail me back an answer back.
A: If your puppy is going outdoors he needs flea protection, and because a flea could hop off the dog in the house i would use something on your cat as well.|you can get information on the flea products on our website, they go accoring to weight.

Ask to watch dog
Q: I was asked to care for a dog that was diagnosed with whipworm about 1 month ago- she is still being treated but her stool sample showed no worms is it safe to care for her i have two dogs of my own and dont want to put them at risk. the dog that has the worms has been treated for about a month- but is not done treatment yet-but stool was negative. thanks
A: Should be ok but i would have all dogs on monthly interceptor which not only prevents heartworms but controls and prevents whipworms which are very hard to get rid of in environment. available at 1800petmeds
Shop for: 1800petmeds, interceptor

Flea
Q: My cocker is allergic to almost every kind of flea medication. can you recommend anything i can use on him ?
A: Try natural flea control methods such as product known as cloud 9 made by company called halo or halopets. also see book dr. pitcairns guide to naturalhealth for dogs and cats by richard pitcairn, which has detailed options in this area

Heartworms
Q: How can you tell if you dog have heartworms she is breath very hurt.
A: You need to take dog in for exam and heartworm blood test to find out

Cushings disease
Q: My dog patch has just been tested for cushings, his tests revealed an 19.5. my vet said she would not treat unless that level was 20. i would like to know if there was anything i could get over the counter to give him some pep or to help with his panting. he was a rescue that we have had for four years and we think he is about six or seven years old. he weighs 75 lbs. thanks, in advance for your help.
A: Dogs can pant for lots of reasons from being heat intolorant(as this is way they sweat) to pain, to many others. have to address underyling cause of panting to make suggestion.

Anxiety
Q: My sons 8 yr old dog is constantly wining. he's other wise content, and very loveable. at home you could be sitting watching tv, and he'll lay at your feet and wine. has always been this way, but seems to be getting worse lately. vet has recommanded prozac, but because of the cost, it is out of the question. what can you suggest. thank you,
A: I would try some natural flower essences from health food store such as rescue remedy which can be used safely long term with no side effects. there is also cheaper meds such as amitryptylline which your vet can prescribe if anxiety a big issue
