Q: I want to use frontline plus, but i only saw medicicne for dogs 11 pounds and up and my puppy is 9 and a half pounds, could i use the medicine for the lowest weight catagory or find something else? does it come in a dose for smaller dogs perhaps only available at the vet?
A: I think 11 pound dose would be fine. for further dose questions ask 1800petmeds pharmacist

My dog is losing hair!!!!!!!
Q: It has been at least 2months when she started losing her hair. she has spots all over her skin with no hair on it. i don't know what to do. could you please help me?
A: Needs diagnostic workup for hair loss including skin scrape, fungal culture, as well as possible skin biopsy if necessary to get to diagnosis and treatment.

Shaking??
Q: About 3 months ago i took my dog to the groomers for a bath. i have a mutt (shepard mix) about 7 years old. ever since then she constantly shakes her head. i thought maybe she had water in her ears or an ear infection but there is no smell. if it is water wouldn't it have come out already. what cold this be from?? what can i do??
A: Likely underyling allergies either inhalent seasonal allergies and/or food allergies which causes head shaking, paw licking excessively in some cases, etc. go to vet to sort out

6 year old german sheppard right hind leg
Q: Ever since our german sheppard was attacked by another german sheppard last summer, he has had problems with his right hind leg. he's to the point now where he won't put pressure on it much. when attacked, he had a bite wound on the inner part of his leg. we took him to the vet and they gave us antibiotic and cleaned and wrapped it. it healed fine. we took him back to the vet because he was favoring his leg. they gave us an anti-inflammatory (don't have the name of it with me) for dogs. that helped a little, but we took him back for ex-rays. they showed nothing wrong. what should we do next? we can't stand seeing him hurting like this?
A: You probably need to continue the therapy for a longer period of time, especially since you did notice some improvement when you did use it.

Tablet form?
Q: Is there a tablet form for flea and tick? i use frontline plus but it is a battle to get it on my dog. she runs and hides in the opposite direction as soon as she sees the package or smells the product.
A: Your might want to consider using a product called sentinel. it will protect against heartworm and fleas. in addition you would use a tick repellant collar.
Shop for: tick, sentinel, frontline plus

Droncit -tape worm
Q: I have a large male dog 14+ years old (chico) and he is quite feeble and is ailing. fleas are a problem. i normally and routinely give all my animals (3 cats & two dogs)droncit at least annually. if i see evidence of tape worms then i re-treat as necessary but not more than twice a year. i control fleas as best i can using sentinel for the dogs. i have administered sentinal to chico but am wary of the droncit. i have seen no evidence of tape worms and feel unless i do it's better to forgo the treatment. please advise if i'm on track, also advise consequences of sentinel for chico. also if i do find evidence of tapeworms should a risk the droncit? txs. jane hilsabeck
A: Droncit is very safe drug so i would not worry
Shop for: droncit, sentinel

Poodle developed cough october 2003
Q: My poodle that is 12 years old developed a chronic cough this past october, it has become almost non-stop. the vet prescribe lasix for the rest of his life. he says he has congestive heart failure. my dog appears to have something stuck in his throat that he is trying dislodge. the vet he had in the past found nothing wrong with his heart, no murmur or anything. could he have developed congestive heart failure so soon? i want to know if there are other medicines to give him, or is there such a thing as a hair ball that could be lodged in his throat. i love this little fellow and he is such a good friend. the lasix is not helping the cough. please advise. thank you so much. whenever he is picked up and his chest is compressed even a small amount he starts coughing and gagging. he eats well, runs and plays around our yard that is quite steep and he does not seem to cough from exersion. he coughs at night and whenever he enters the house. coughs when he gets excited over something. he has a rattle in his chest or wheezing all the time and ever so often he coughs up white mucous. please advise. i am so worried about him.
A: I would make sure vet has right diagnosis of congestive heart failure by getting another opinion. some poodles have chronic lung disease as well which they can have with or by itself. this is medicated with totally different medications like drugs to dilate airways as well as anti-inflammatories. lasix will not help these chronic lung diseases
